Day 5

We report once again at the end of the day from Orșova. We are sorry for the delay, but this was one of our longest days, so we couldn't start writing on time.

By morning it seemed that the rain would, finally, defeat us, but we wouldn't give up. Just as good as the weather was when we arrived, as bad it turned when we left. So we ate a quick breakfast, held a short team meeting and head out to Caransebeș, despite the rain, clouds and frontal wind. After all, you can't always have good weather, and since we already started, the rain won't stop us. We split into three teams, stopping from time to time to wait for one another and grab some biscuits and orange juice. And this was all we needed to get Caransebeș.

There we had good weather waiting for us and some sausages from a chain store fast-food. The employees couldn't believe they managed to sell more than forty portions in a single go, so they quickly offered us some make-shift cardboard chairs to sit on. We even met two nice persons here. One of them, Mrs. Marika from Miercurea Ciuc was so glad to hear spoken Hungarian (t.n.: Miercurea Ciuc is a town with a Hungarian majority, whereas there are only a handful in Caransebeș) that she quickly joined us and told us about herself, her stories, abut the city, about the local affairs. Another very kind person was Mr. Sándor Péterfi, ex-student of our school and former Bike Expeditionist, who currently work there. It seems that wherever we got on this wide world we meet former student everywhere, which is a really great feeling. We thank him for setting aside some time from work to talk to us. It is so good to meet old friends every once in a while.

From Caransebeș the team split in two. Twelve tough lads kept cycling, while the others went ahead to look for a place for the night, unpack and get dinner. We had three accidents on the way. One of them required medical attention. The first one was Lilla, who got away with a slight bruise, then Antika showed us that he still knows how to fall, colliding with Enikő, but of course they are fine. Then Tamás Tulkos was the last one to go. The bicycle slid out under him for unknown reason. The medic took a look at it and gave permission for further cycling, so there aren't any worries.

We ate the dinner a long time ago, which was french fries with grilled chicken breast. Now everyone is taking a shower, and getting quieter. The rooms are great, the sight of the Danube is just gorgeous, so it will be good to wake up here in the morning. There's only one worry: we're 12,125,659 in the room, that is seven of us and 12,125,652 of them, them being mosquitoes, but we'll try to get along fine. If old Expeditionists are reading this, it's the Danube Delta feeling again, only in our rooms.

If you can forgive us, we'd rather not send any individual messages today either, only a common one: we've beat the rain today, so we'll be going further, no matter how much it rains. In a few days we will be in Tekirdag anyway, so who cares? Tomorrow is a day of rest, so we'll be sending many messages, we promise, we'll be sending messages and doing nothing else.
